Q1. What is it mean by TOTAL FORCE?
A1. ALL FORCEs acted on the body are the total force.
Q2. What kind of force to be considered as total force?
A2. Weight (W), frictional force (f), Tension (T), Normal force (R), etc. Note that all physical quantities mentioned here have the same SI unit which is Newton (N).
Q3. How to determine the direction of the force? (positive or negative)
A3. - For N. 1st Law = all forces directed to the right & in upward motion are positive, all forces to the left & in downward motion are negative.
- For N. 2nd Law = all forces acting at the same direction to acceleration (a) are considered as positive force. Example: the object is moving to the left with acceleration, a. Hence, all forces directed to the left are considered to be positive!
